I just stumbled across what might be the most fantastic thing I have seen this year. While looking for reproductive justice associations in Canada, I found the “Reproductive Justice League” hosted by the Centre for Gender Advocacy out of Montreal, Quebec.
“The Reproductive Justice League’s goal is to raise awareness about the injustices faced by those trying to assert their reproductive autonomy in Canada, and to promote action through teach-ins, art-and-activism projects, print materials and information sessions.”
But get this. They have a choir. Yes, you read that right. The Reproductive Justice League is home to the Reproductive Justice League Choir. Now, what is that you might be wondering. Well, they have a songbook, chock full of songs pertaining to reproductive justice issues such as abortion, birth empowerment, sex education and more!
Here is a little sample for you, from the song titled “Reproductive Justice Medley” sung to the tune of “Stop right now” by the Spice Girls:
“Stop right now,
thank you very much
Your right wing party is so out of touch
Hey you, your plan is really dumb
Don’t mess with our right to have abortions”
The Reproductive Justice League has given permission for people to use their songbook for local groups, so I’m going to share it here with the hopes that someone will find it and use it. If you have a local advocacy group, please share it with me, I would love to spread the word about your organization.
Behold, the Reproductive Justice League Songbook.
